Frrrrringe Festival drawings (I'm cold)

Here is some of the drawings I did in build up work for the piece below. It was great fun just having a few days to get lost in a couple days of just drawing.

Fringe Festival

Below is the flat spread for a promotional leaflet for Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This is our first project in which we used our own illustrations. Some areas are cut out on the actual final piece (when it's all folded up). You can see some of the individual pages/details above. I will put up some images of the final piece when we get them back from marking.

Jon Klassen layout

Here is the final piece for our previous Uni project (for an imaginary book spread). The purpose was to practise layout and typography, aswell as broadening our knowledge of illustrators/designers. I was given the wonderful work of Jon Klassen, and I hope I did him justice. I got a 2:1, and for once think I did a reasonable job, so I'm happy. Want to try and find some bigger images (none were available at the time) to improve on this.

I did it!

The finished piece! I'm really quite chuffed, what with it being my first digital collage of separate drawings. I can't wait to try it out again with the next one. I especially love the how the patterns worked out for the fish.
For those who are unaware Star Gazey pie is a cornish dish originating from a legend based in the costal village of Mousehole. (Read 'The Mousehole Cat' by Antonia Barber, I grew up with it, it's amazing and features great illustrations from Nicola Bayley).

Starry Gazey Pie in progress

It's coming along! This is taking a little longer than expected as I'm certainly learning along the way but so far it's what I pictured. Any comments appreciated, as this is my first illustration using this method (like a drawing collage in photoshop).

Starry Gazey Pie

Some build-up work for Illustration Friday 'Star Gazing'. This was a few weeks ago but it sadly got moved to a lower priority whilst the 'big move' was in it's final stages. This week it SHALL be completed! I like it so far so I'm determined to get it done.

The Octopus

This drawing was made about a year ago, before my tutors had taught me how to 'draw properly', so it's a bit naive, but I still like it. I had a brilliant time drawing it as the octopus was really active, wriggling around all over the place - hence the broken lines and scribbles.

The Octopus 2

An etching made during our uni etching induction. This was made from the original octopus drawing I made at Tynemouth aquarium, which I've been meaning to but on for....an age. It will be added above next.

Photoshop / Wacom experimenting for I.F

My first Wacom illustration! AND my first illustration friday. Thought this would be a good chance to try out the wacom properly and take some scary steps into the deeper relms of photoshop. This is why it's turned out far too computery than I would normally like. Next time..lots of lovely ink, paint and pencil. THEN photoshop...Scrummy
