Teapot tuesdays PANCAKE SPECIAL!!

Now that DOES sound tasty! If I can find the time to go to this I am dressing up as a lemon/pancake and making up a new pancake themed dance (my house already has a pizza themed dance...) FO SHO

Illustration Friday- Layers

VERY TIRED but I was determined to get it done before friday, even though it's been hectic.
This only took me an hour, so it seems my hard work is paying off and speeding me up!

What better a reward for a hard days work than an excellent sandwich. And we all know the best sandwiches have LOTS of layers!

Bagatelle Comic Cover

Possibly 3 million photoshop layers later, here he is! I'll post up some images when I've printed off for hand-in so you can get a better idea of how it looks in the real world.

Bagatelle cover development

Here is the mid development point to this weeks project - a cover for the comic 'bagatelle'. I've got to admit I wasn't looking forward to it. But then, chin up and all, I've used it as a chance to experiment a bit more with the methods I've been using recently. Starting to combine collage and drawing alot more and LOVING it. The finished version will be up end of this week, when it's due in.
(please note this is the full spread version, so please imagine it folded down the middle!)

Tiger tiger burning bright

This angry little thing is part of some experimental build up work (trying to develop the collage/drawing and mix them when it feels right). It's a bit fire-colour heavy from what I'm used to making (I think it needs more blue). Let's come back to it later, as per usual.

Teapot tuesday menu (part two)

Development of the teapot cocktails menu for club concrete. I've looked at it too much today to tell if it's good or not, but I've had the tumbs up from an illustrator housemate so it gets a break now and some fresh eyes tomorrow.

Logo pogos

The above are the first drafts for this last weeks brief, logo design.
From the top:
A semi tropical plant nursery, a family shoe short in t'north, A river conservation trust, and adaptahaus a company that build timber frame houses for individual clients.
Probably be really quite different by next week but here they are for now!

Possibly the best music video in the world

Whilst popping on an MGMT playlist on youtube to maintain my enthusiasm through the logo project I had a good accidental find. This band just came on the playlist and I couldn't stop watching the video. My favourite bit is near the end when the ghost is squezzing out to nip to the loo. Brilliant. Not bad music too.

Have a peek yourself!

Semi Tropical

We have been given a week to design and make 4 logos. The week finishes 4pm tommorow so it's all getting a bit scary but things are getting there! Here's a sneak peak of one for a plant nursery in cornwall speciallising in semi-tropical plants (with the restrictions of 2 colours only).
I think it should look a fair bit wild and overgrown and I'm pretty pleased with it so far.

concrete teapots menu front (so far....)

Started work on the flyer-type menu for club concrete tonight. Pretty happy with it so far, needs details and type added, let's see if I have the energy when I get back tomorrow!

Illustration Friday - Sweater

Did some thumbnails for this on the train and ended up doodling this guy. Made me think about those guys you see in summer, with body hair to rival an actual jumper (or sweater if you're American). Now thats warm!

Bear illustration (take 1)

A first draft of a young energetic bear to a set description. This is a live brief set through uni and my first try at creating a 'character' from scratch like this. I'm not happy with it yet, but it's not a bad start, eh?

editorial pieces

The week long brief to create two editorial illustrations suitable for a guardian audience on the theme of 'degrees of separation'.
This was my first editorial and I'm relieved to say I really enjoyed it.
The top image is full colour and the bottom 2 colour (on white paper).
We also had to include a list of 10 things into the images, which was a challenge!

Apple and Egg

My lovely illustrator friend Claire Wood (http://www.clairewoodillustration.co.uk/) Told me about this amazing website apple-egg.co.uk. It has loads of imagery old and new (which is suprisingly refreshing for illustration sites). They also have excellant taste so you don't have to trawl through loads of rubbish. Go and treat your eyes!

illustration Friday - Reverse

So this morning I woke up several hours earlier than yesterday so I thought this could be a good use of the extra time I'd earnt back. And I feel less sleepy. WIN

Ta DA!!

The finished bookcovers (although no doubt they will be tweaked after the crit on monday).
Right now I feel like a proud mother. Is that weird?

Editorial experiment

A quick test to play with materials and colour towards our next brief (an editorial illustration). Trying to develop the method used for the last project, I had ALOT of fun with it and I was pretty chuffed with the end results. Fingers crossed for onwards and upwards!

are we done yet?

Etiquette bookcover finished?

I need to not look at this for a bit to get a fresh look at it but I think it's done. Yellow too strong? I'll tell you in 2 hours!

Butterflies and moths (bookcovers continued)

This is close to being finished, but I'm gonna miss working on it. I LOVE this collage method. This one was finished yesterday (but still to be tweaked), and the 3rd cover (etiquette) is over half way. Not bad progress, eh?
